There has been quite a lot of discussion on the net about shooting in RAW vs. JPEG. This post isn't about the pros and cons of either, this is just about why I personally choose to shoot in RAW.
I got started in photography in the days of film. I've developed my own negatives and prints, and had a lot of fun doing it. I choose to shoot in RAW format because, for me, it is the digital version of the negative. It allows me to make the adjustments I want to make, just as I could with the negative.
Yes, the file sizes are larger, but with the cost of memory cards, that's not really an issue. With an 8GB memory card, my Canon 10D will allow me to store over 750 images. That's a lot of images, and I'm probably not going to fill it up before I can get back to the computer and download them. Especially considering that the average roll sizes for 35mm film are 24 and 36 exposures. 750 images is more than 20 rolls of 36 exposure 35mm film.
So there's my 2 cents, for what its worth. :-)
