He used to shoot all of the ads for Oakley, in fact he used to own Oakley. Now he has another company, and it had made quite an impact in Hollywood. It's products have been used to shoot major motion pictures like Pirates of the Caribean: On Stranger Tides, Contagion and The Hobbit; shot magazine covers for Bazaar, Vogue and Vanity Fair; and even been used in television to shoot Rizzoli & Isles, Blue Bloods and Leverage. His name is Jim Jannard and the company is RED.

Websites for Photographers
Editor's Note: This is a cross-post from my other blog at mdrisser.com
After reading an interesting post and the corresponding discussion on Colby Brown's page over on Google+, and having seen similar discussions elsewhere, I thought it might be a good idea to go a little more in-depth on the subject of Web Sites for Photographers. So if you are a photographer, please read on.
Backing Up Your Photos - From an IT Perspective
I've seen a few posts around the web recently that talked briefly about how to back-up your photos. Most of them just briefly touched on the subject, and some of them were just plain wrong. So I thought I'd put together a post about backing up, from the perspective of someone who works in IT.
Online Photo Tools
Here are a few online photography tools that I find quite useful, I hope you do too.
Blue/Golden Hour Calculator
JekoPhoto has a a great Blue/Golden Hour Calculator as well as a few other helpful tools. The calculator allows you to determine the sunrise, sunset, morning twilight and evening twilight times for any place and any date.
Simply click a location on the Google Map, select a date and submit. The page diaplays a table of the times below the map. Clicking on a day draws lines indicating the directions of moonrise, moonset, sunrise and sunset.
Depth of Field Calculator
DOFMaster is an online Depth of Field Calculator. Select you camera, focal length, f/stop and subject distance, click "Calculate" and view the results. Simple, quick and easy to use.
Lighting Diagrams
SyLights (Show Your Lights) is an easy to use lighting diagram editor. Create and save your own lighting setups, or browse the gallery of lighting setups others have created. they also have an app for the iPad.
Stolen Camera Finder
stolencamerafinder uses the serial number stored in your photo to search the web for photos taken with the same camera. Simply drag and drop an image taken with your camera. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising.
I'm sure there are many more great online photography tools out there. If you know of any, please post them in the comments.
Why I Shoot RAW
There has been quite a lot of discussion on the net about shooting in RAW vs. JPEG. This post isn't about the pros and cons of either, this is just about why I personally choose to shoot in RAW.
Must Follow Photographers on Twitter
Since nearly the beginning of the Twitterverse there have been those who have tweeted lists of people that they admire, list of people in a single 'category', programmers, web designers, graphic designers, and many, many more. Today I present to you my own list, follow them, learn from them, enjoy their work.
